Disorder

"Disorder" explores the duality that conceptions of order play in the lives of Cai Glover and Pierre-Olivier Beaulac-Bouchard and the roles they have been ordered into by way of their experiences with their respective identification with being d/Deaf.

Cai is caught in a sound mind with a hearing aid that lends a human sweetness to the cacophony of life, and a cochlear implant that provides an adequate amount of stimuli reflecting the world we live in. Pierre-Olivier is caught in a family web that demands a condition of normalcy from an artist that refuses to be communicatively and expressively stifled.

The show is set to music that allows us to immerse ourselves in the experience of what it's like to hear through Cai and P-O's ears; through a sound experience that follows the limits of their audiological tests. The gestural manifestation of these two different experiences of disorder are realized in a contemporary assortment of symbols and of personality looking to establish order and then disorder.

But which is which?

We intend to explore how the written word comes into contact with a spatial language (ASL) at its border of meaning; where does the literal sit still next to the flight of a signed language? Still yet, where does language fall short of the poetic body? A dancing body; meaningful and signifying beyond the grasp of language but within the grips of feeling.

And in dialogue?

- I try to make them fit, fit together

- Stop signing, he can use his voice

- like night terrors

- afraid of being laughed at

- like an undistracted captive

- with their mouth to the floor
